Terms of Service
The short version: Tickertail is a reading service for public financial filings. Nothing on it is investment advice, nothing is billed today, and when subscriptions open they will work exactly as described below.
Last updated: August 5, 2026
1. Who we are
This section doubles as the imprintTickertail ("we", "us", the "service") is operated by [operator entity: legal name and form to be completed at incorporation].
- Registered address: [to be completed at incorporation]
- Authorized representative: [to be completed at incorporation]
- Registration number / VAT ID: [to be completed at incorporation, where applicable]
- Contact: [a contact email will be published here once the production mail domain is live]
These fields will be completed before paid subscriptions open. Until then, this page is dated at the top so you can tell exactly which version you are reading.
2. The service
Tickertail is a financial analysis publication built on public records. United States law requires members of Congress and corporate insiders to disclose their trades, and large investment funds to disclose their holdings; we read those filings, translate them into plain English, and analyze what happened after each one became public. Every figure on the site derives from an official filing or an end-of-day market price, and every card links to the filing it came from.
The same content is published to every reader alike. Tickertail is informational only: it is not investment advice, it is not tailored to you, and we know nothing about your finances. We are not a broker-dealer, we do not execute or route orders, and we are not an investment adviser or fiduciary. The full statement of what Tickertail is and is not lives at /disclosures, which is part of these terms.
3. Accounts
Optional, email-only: the tape is readable without oneTickertail accounts are optional. The whole site is readable without signing up. An account is an email address and nothing more: you sign in with a one-time emailed link, no password ever exists, and the account carries your settings and (once subscriptions open) your subscription. If you create one, the following applies:
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- One account per person; account details must be accurate.
- Sign-in links are single-use and expire. Anyone who can read your email inbox can sign in as you, so you are responsible for securing that inbox and for activity under your account.
- We may suspend or close accounts that violate section 5 (acceptable use).
4. Subscriptions and billing
Forward commitments: nothing is billed todayDuring launch, everything on Tickertail is free. There is no paywall, no checkout, and we do not collect payment details. Nothing in this section is in force until subscriptions open; it is published now so early readers can see, in advance and in writing, the terms they are being promised.
The founding rate. When subscriptions open, readers who subscribed during the founding window will pay the founding rate: $5 per month or $48 per year, against the list price of $7 per month or $67 per year. The founding rate is a binding commitment with a precise meaning:
- The founding rate applies for as long as your subscription remains continuously active.
- Canceling, or letting payment lapse, ends founding-rate eligibility; resubscribing later is at the then-current list price.
- Switching between monthly and annual billing keeps the founding tier: you move to the founding rate of the plan you switch to.
- The list price is the genuine price later subscribers will pay once the founding window closes, and the end of the founding window will be announced before prices rise.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions will renew automatically. Before you ever pay, we will show clearly what you will be charged, how often, and how to cancel; and canceling online will be as easy as subscribing was, from your account settings, no phone call and no chat with a retention script. Canceling stops the next renewal; you keep access for the period already paid.
Consumers in the EU, EEA, and UK. You will have a 14-day right of withdrawal from a new subscription. Where the law allows that right to end early for digital subscriptions that begin immediately, we will ask for the express consent and acknowledgment the law requires, in plain words, before performance begins. Your statutory rights are not affected by anything in these terms.
Refunds. [planned policy, subject to final confirmation before subscriptions open: canceling stops the next renewal rather than refunding the current period, and annual plans are refundable within the first 14 days]
5. Acceptable use
Tickertail is for reading. Using the service, you agree not to:
- scrape, bulk-download, or systematically extract the dataset, or resell or redistribute it, whether raw or repackaged;
- present Tickertail's analysis to others as personalized investment advice, yours or ours;
- circumvent rate limits, access controls, or, once they exist, subscription gates;
- reverse engineer the service, including its scoring systems, or use automated tools to reconstruct them;
- interfere with the operation of the service or attempt to gain unauthorized access to its systems or data.
6. Intellectual property
The government filings underlying the service are public records; we claim no ownership of the facts they contain. What we do claim is everything we build on top: the curation, the plain-English translations, the analysis and scores, the site's text and design, and the Tickertail name and marks.
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and read the service. That license does not extend to the activities prohibited in section 5, and it ends if your access is terminated.
7. Third-party services
The service currently runs on the following third parties:
- Vercel hosts the site (and provides cookieless traffic analytics; see the privacy policy).
- Supabase hosts the database the site is rendered from, plus the account records described in the privacy policy. Your browser never connects to it directly.
- Google Fontsserves the site's typefaces (a data-transfer detail covered in the privacy policy).
- Marketstack supplies end-of-day market prices. It receives no data about you.
- Filing data comes from official sources: the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate Office of Public Records, and SEC EDGAR.
Planned features (payments, email, messaging alerts) will add processors; each will be named here and in the privacy policy before it goes live.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
Errors and omissions. Tickertail processes a high volume of filings automatically. Despite the verification checks we run before numbers ship, content may contain errors, and filings themselves arrive late, in dollar ranges, and are sometimes amended. Your sole remedy for an error in our content is its correction under the corrections policy, not damages.
No advice, no liability for trading decisions. Nothing on Tickertail is investment advice (see /disclosures). Any investment decision you make is yours alone, and we are not liable for trading or investment losses, lost profits, or any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the service.
Liability cap. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. While the service is free, that amount is zero.
What this section cannot do. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by applicable law, including liability for fraud or willful misconduct, and nothing overrides statutory rights that consumers are entitled to in their country of residence.
9. Termination and changes to the service
We may add, change, or remove features of the service, and we may suspend or terminate access that violates section 5. If paid subscriptions exist at the time of a material degradation or discontinuation of the paid service, affected subscribers will be notified and treated per section 4's refund terms.
10. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms materially, we will announce the change on the site (and by email, once accounts with email exist) before it takes effect, and the dateline at the top of this page will move. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect is acceptance of the new terms. The most consequential planned change is already flagged: these terms will be re-reviewed and re-dated on the day subscriptions open.
11. Governing law and venue
[governing law and venue will be set when the operator entity's jurisdiction is fixed at incorporation]
If you are a consumer, you additionally keep the protection of any mandatory law of the country where you live, and nothing in this section deprives you of the right to bring proceedings there.
12. Severability and the rest
If a provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect and the provision is enforced to the maximum extent permitted. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them to a successor of the service. These terms, together with the disclosures they incorporate, are the entire agreement between you and us about the service. The privacy policy explains how we handle data; it is provided as a notice, not as part of this contract.
13. Contact
[a contact email (hello@ on the production domain) will be published here once the mail domain is live; until then this page carries the imprint details in section 1 as they become available]
